ANIMAL/OUTDOOR EXPERIENCE

Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, Cincinnati, OH (May 2014-present). Intern, May 2014-August 2014. Volunteer, August 2014-present. As an intern, worked with the bird, cat, and nocturnal collections. As a volunteer, work with the bird collection, which includes over 180 individuals. Assist keepers in the care of animals, working both independently and with others. Requires adaptability, creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving. Experience with cleaning, feeding, enrichment, training, and medicating for a wide variety of species, including Guam rails, Micronesian kingfishers, and the largest kea flock in North America.

Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge, Springville, TN (Spring 2009). Assisted refuge ranger and biologist in day-to-day tasks, as well as long-term projects. Refuge habitats serve a diverse array of wildlife, most notably over 300 species of birds. Duties included wood duck box checks, shorebird surveys, water management, trail work, school programs, etc. Gained professional experience with wildlife biology, public use/programs, facilities maintenance, clerical tasks, and other aspects of refuge management.

Conservation and Outdoor Recreation/Education Program, Indiana University (Spring 2008). Semester-long program through Indiana University's School of Public Health. Received SOLO Wilderness First Responder certification, WEA Outdoor Leader certification, ACA Essentials of Canoeing training, LNT Trainer certification, and AHA CPR certification, as well as experience in adventure leadership, group facilitation, backcountry search and rescue, navigation, canyoneering, canoeing, caving, climbing, and mountaineering.

YMCA Camp Ernst, Burlington, KY (2003-2012). Counselor, Summers 2004-2007. Unit Leader, Summers 2008-2011. Outreach Program Coordinator, Fall 2009-Summer 2010. Worked cooperatively with other staff members and camp administration to implement an effective program. Supervised operations for up to 10 cabins, 100 campers, and 30 staff members each week during the summer. Established and facilitated off-site programs involving community youth. Engaged in ongoing marketing projects and planning of the summer program.


OTHER EMPLOYMENT

Floor Associate, Sam's Club, Loveland, OH (September 2012-present). Work in a fast-paced retail environment. Responsibilities include merchandising, sales, and customer service. Have worked in the electronics department since August 2013. Experience selling desktop computers, laptops, tablets, televisions, and related accessories. Selected as associate of the month for May 2013 and associate of the year for 2013.

Proofreader, Cengage Learning PTR, Boston, MA (November 2011-October 2014). Freelance editing—checked academic and trade books for grammar/spelling accuracy, layout, and consistency prior to publication. Required strong English skills and thorough attention to detail.

Warehouse Associate, SMX Staffing/Amazon.com, Hebron, KY (November 2010-April 2011, November 2011-September 2012). Worked in a constantly evolving high-volume Amazon.com warehouse facility. Duties included picking, packing, sorting, unloading, and transporting product. Training and experience in the use of warehouse equipment, including hand scanners, computers, and pallet jacks.

Natural Resource Specialist, Stonelick State Park, Pleasant Plain, OH (September 2010-November 2010). Assisted with maintenance and upkeep of park grounds and facilities. Duties included cleaning, mowing, painting, general repairs, tree removal, water line repairs, etc. Experience with necessary tools and materials, including hand and power tools, chainsaws, riding mowers, piping, etc.

University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, OH (2011-2014). GPA 4.0. Graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences. Included coursework in ecology, genetics, conservation, animal behavior, anatomy, physiology, and vertebrate and invertebrate zoology and taxonomy.

Indiana University, Bloomington, IN (2004-2009). GPA 3.9. Graduated with Bachelor of Science degree in Outdoor Recreation and Resource Management with a specialization in outdoor leadership. Additional experience in interpretation, recreation management, and resource management.
